House!!

I think I have found the house for me!! Check it out. Hopefully everything will work out and I will be able to get it!! I love, love, love it!!
I am really thinking hard about teaching 5th grade next year. I really love first grade, but I have always wondered about teaching 5th grade. Please offer advice and or suggestions.
That is all in my world. Kickboxing is great!! Mr. Lance has two sessions of class. Tuesday and Thursday is beginners and Monday and Wednesday is advanced. Mr. Lance would not let me choose, I had to go to the advanced class. I am glad about this because the advanced class has just a few students and the workout is so much better!! I know Mr. Lance will have me whipped in shape by Flordia time.

Trouble in PhD Land

Well, I thought all the girl drama was behind me now that I was out of high school. Yet is has resurfaced, this time within the all female group known as my cohort. So, here is the quick and dirty version.

Our summer schedule was announced two weekends ago by one of our professors. I verbally expressed my problem with the schedule and how it would prevent me from going to Florida with my family. All the other girls were extremely sympathetic to my plight and stated how flexible they were willing to be because all their vacations were planned for mid July. So, the only person affected by this schedule was me. Our professor stated she would discuss the schedule with the professor who would be teaching the class and let us know. Fast forward: last Friday the schedule for that class was sent via email; again adversely affecting only me. I quickle emailed the professor over the cohort who gave me the blessing to email the teaching professor directly and plead my case to her. I did all of these things. The teaching professor agreed to change dates and reinstate the orginal ending date for class (July 3rd). When I get this news, I email all the girls in the cohort. Now, that was Tuesday. Thursday, I(and the rest of us) receive an email from one of the other girls in the cohort stating what a bind chaning the schedule has now placed her in. Because she booked a cruise based on the tentative dates for class and now she will have to drive 14 hours immediately after our last class on the third of July to make it to her cruise departure in Florida. Anyway, she emailed our professor who emailed her back and it has turned into a huge mess ending with her sending the entire cohort a really nasty email.
Does girl drama ever stop???

Happy weekend!!

Tuesday

I really enjoyed the day off. I did nothing. I sat on the couch and played games on the computer and watched TV. I also finished my book Ninteen Minutes. It was so good!!
Kickboxing on Saturday was awesome!! I did not realize just how much I missed it. And you know, for only $60 a month, I consider it a bargain. I get to punch and kick and hit as hard as I want. But today I am so sore it is unbelievable.
My summer schedule is going to be hectic for school. We are pretty much trying to get all 6 hours in the months of May and June. Which means that I will have class almost every weekend in May and every Tuesday and Thursday in June. I am still working on getting my professor to change the dates of our last Tuesday and Thursday to the beginning of July so that I can go on the Pense-Hughes-Baucom Family vacation to Florida. I think it will work out.
I am still patiently waiting to hear from the bank about my loan. Hopefully I will hear today. I would love to become a home owner. There are two houses near Beth and Scott and I like both of them. Everyone PRAY PRAY PRAY!!
Happy short work week!

Friday

TGIF!! I am so glad we have a three day weekend!! I need a break and so do my students!! I am going to try to get my house a little organized this weekend. I need to get some of my school stuff packed away; the stuff from my masters and make room for all my books that I have accumulated since beginning my PhD. It is amazing the number of books that each class requires. Some fo the books are really laborsome to read.

So, yesterday was Valentine's Day and I was alone, again. That is ok, though. I have high hopes for next year. I got some really good gifts from my students.

I am super excited!! Tomorrow is the first day of kickboxing and I can't wait!! I have really missed kickboxing!!

Have a great weekend!!

Only Tuesday

Yesterday and today have been nuts. Rita is out very sick and of course we have no subs, so I have all of her first graders. She only has 11 first graders, but when those 11 are added to my 20; a large class is created. Just the logistics of fitting all of the students in my room is stressful. So, I am very tired today. Plus it is very hard to teach reading groups with the extra students, so I feel like all the students get cheated of a good day of learning.
Tonight, I am going to meet with Mr. Lance (aka kickboxing coach). Before you can start the class, he has to meet with you. I am so excited to be starting this again. I have really missed it for the last year.
Ok...have a great Tuesday!!

Monday, again...

So, it is Monday and a very unpleasant one at that. It is cold and rainy and there is no sun in sight.
Well, I had a very interesting weekend. I had class all weekend. Class was great, made me very tired, but it was still great. I know, I know, I am a nerd. I enjoy going to school and talking about academic reading. Anyway, this particular class requires a great deal of thinking about thinking and my educational beliefs. All that thinking is difficult and tiresome. The weekends that I have class make me have a very tired Monday.
After class on Saturday, I went to see Beth. Deb was there and they had been making cake balls. Now, let me just say, this whole idea that cake and frosting can be rolled into a ball and dipped in chocolate is amazing. I think I could eat them everyday!! All different flavors...yum, yum, yum!!
Well, I feel I need to detox from my weekend. This particular weekend, we(all of us in my cohort) seemed to have the need to junk out a little. We are usually a pretty good group about our food, but this weekend we ate candy and carbs...not good. But, alas, I am starting fresh today back on Phase I of south beach. My 13lb lose was great motivation. So, for the next two weeks, lean protein and veggies.
Oh, yea! I am starting Kickboxing again....YIPEE!!!!! I meet with Mr. Lance on Tuesday, then my first class will be Saturday!! Nothing like a little kickboxing to whip my butt in shape!!
Have a great day!!

Blah Weather

So, yesterday was a beautiful day!! We had outside recess, which was great!! Now today, I wake up and the beautiful weather is gone!! Rain, rain, rain!! UGH!!! I am very cranky!!

Exciting things I am looking forward to this week:

  • Tonight, American Idol...Do I need to say anymore???
  • Wednesday is the 100th day of school. I love the 100th day!! We do so many fun things.
  • Friday, Dan Call is coming to read Frog and Toad to my class. Dan Call is a great story teller. He reads Frog and Toad with such conviction. I love it!!

I think when I buy a house I am going to get a puppy. Any suggestions on type will be considered. I don't really want a dog that is huge. I may end up getting another yorkie...I love those little bundles of energy!!

Have a rainy day!!

February!!

So, it is February, or as Deborah calls it...Valentine's month. Only here is the thing about Valentine's Day....it pretty much sucks if you do not have a significant other.

Well, I think I have a found a great house. It is three houses down from Beth and Scott and just minutes away from Mom and Dad. The interior of the house is just like Beth and Scott's, only flipped and just a little smaller. I really think it is cute and just the right size for me. Please pray that I can get it.

This has been an especially stressful week at school. Several issues have come up and all seem to involve me or a student from my classroom. The highlight of my week was the filet mignon I ate on Tuesday at The Green Onion courtesy of McGraw-Hill Publishing company. Our reading texbook adoption is this year and the two big adoptions are reading and math. So, for the last two weeks the textbook companies are trying to persuade us to select their books. Because Tulsa Public Schools is the largest district in the state, they tend to cater to our requests and will format textbooks to meet conditions we have requested. Then, they invite the textbook committee members(that's me) to dinners. I have enjoyed Ted's (yum, yum!!), TiAmo's and Green Onion. I managed to enjoy all these dinners out and still stay faithful to my south beach phase 2 plan. Today we are celebrating GroundHog Day!! My kids are loving it.

Yesterday, I turned in applications for 12 scholarships. Hopefully, I will get at least one, maybe even two. That would be so great!!

Happy Friday!!
