Well, it has been a while since my last post, but some major events have occurred. As I am sure you are aware, Oklahoma just had a horrible ice storm. Because of the ice storm, I lost electricity. I was without it for 8 days, which felt like an eternity. I got my electricity back on Monday and was so happy to have it when I got home from work. But, now my cable, internet and home phone are not working....I have a cox bundle so when one is out, all bundle features are out. Cox has quoted me a date of January 4th as the estimated date of repair. Oh well, at least I have lights :) !

This past weekend was to be my last class of the semester, but due to the weather and all my professor cancelled her trip to Tulsa and I was quite happy!! I turned in my last paper for the semester, which was quite overwhelming. Since my class was cancelled, I was very happy that I was able to attend two parties. On Friday, my sister Beth, hosted an ornament exchange party and we enjoyed delicious appetizers and pomegranate martinis. Beth did quite the awesome job of hosting!! I was very proud! Then, on Sunday, Deborah had our family over for some fun games and delicious food and alcoholic punch! We played Apples to Apples; a first time for me, then we played Charades. It was quite enjoyable.

This week at school has been a blur. Last night we had our Christmas make up program. The original date was during the ice storm. The kids did such a great job!! We have had so much activity this week. Today we read the Polar Express in order to prepare for the movie tomorrow. Each year when Rita and I read this story, we pretend we have lost the magic of Christmas; randomly throughout the day different people hide outside of our rooms and ring a bell, which we pretend not to hear. We keep this up until about 2:15 or so, then we suddenly can hear the bell. The kids love it and quite frankly, so do I. Tomorrow, we are wearing our pajamas to school and taking a ride on The Polar Express. It is so much fun teaching first grade!!

Happy Wednesday!!

FRIDAY!!

I am glad it is Friday!! I had my last Thursday night class for this semester and hopefully forever. My classes are only supposed to meet on the weekend and this Thursday night class has put a huge damper on my Grey's Anatomy. Thank God for DVR!! But, Allison and I gave our big book project to Dr. Griffith and now I just have one more paper due before the end of the semester(Yipee!!!). Our class last night was very encouraging. Dr. Griffith had three students who had just finished their dissertations come and talk to us. One of the ladies was one of my teachers for one of my undergrad classes. I am feeling more and more confident about this whole dissertation process. I had a lot of misconceptions about what I would have to do. The most encouraging ascpect was that all of these women worked full time, which I will have to do, and that has been my biggest worry. Will I be able to conduct the necessary research while I am working....I now know the answer is yes.

Let me just talk for a minute about my new love of scarves. I bought a scarf to go with my coat and it has a matching hat and gloves, but then I remembered the great scarf I bought for myself in London. It has been in my closet since I sent it to the dry cleaners. Since this discovery, I have been shopping for all kinds of scarves, plaid, plain, cashmere, it doesn't matter, I just want scarves.

Have a happy Friday!!

Thank God it is Tuesday

Well, I am so glad it is Tuesday!! Last night I worked in my classroom until 9:30, yes, 9:30. I feel as though I have neglected my classroom with all the schoolwork I have had to do these last few weeks. So, if felt good to stay and get some work done. My kids made the cutest candy to hang from the ceiling....it is not really candy, just painted paper plates. Then, I wrap it in cellophane and hang it....it looks like a bunch of hanging peppermint candies.

Allison and I finished our research project and I am so very glad. The research for this big book has been overwhelming. I am very proud of the project and that it has my signature on it, but at the same time, I am so glad it is done. Only one more project then I am done for the semester...yipee!! I know it sounds like I am complaining, but I am not, truely, I love, love all that I am learning. It just feels good to have some time to spend in my classroom. I especially love this time of year with our units of study....we are studying Christmas around the world....Today we finished up Mexico, our culminating event was enjoying some nachos..ole!!

Okay, so I am finding this blogging kind of theraputic...just a thought...does anyone read it???

So, I am kind of sad....my best friend lives in the City...I used to see here almost everyday...the past year our relationship got a little strained, but I am working to get it back the way it was. Anyway, she called yesterday, crying and I hate that I couldn't go see her....I just miss seeing my friend, but I enjoy our phone conversations....although it is not quite the same....I am used to seeing her at least five days a week!! I just love my BFF!!

Tonight, I am enjoying myself and doing nothing....I am drinking some red wine!! Good night all!

Monday, Decebmer 3, 2007

Well, December is officially here (I can't believe it!!) Wasn't it just the first day of school like a week ago???

Today, I will have to run around like a mad woman to get everything done before 9:30 p.m. I have so many things to get ready for my classroom. We are beginning our Christmas around the world unit and I am not ready. Usually I get these preparations done on the weekend(yes, this is my life, I spend my free time working on projects for my classroom), but this weekend was spend researching how/why 4-5 year olds interact with texts. Exciting reading, please email me for the complete list of articles that you can read at your leisure.(I am so funny!!)

Well, I am off to hang candy from the ceiling of my classroom!! I will take a picture and post for all to see once it is complete.

Happy Monday!!

So, here I am posting a blog. I never thought I would want to do this, but I think I will try it out. I really enjoy reading Deborah and Beth's blogs, so maybe someone will enjoy reading mine. So, here goes.......

Well, right now I should be working on my big book for my project with Allison, but I digress; I would rather set up my blog. So, as I have perused other blogs, I have seen such cute pictures and other details. So, that is one more thing to add to my to do list: find cute embellishements for my blog. Beth and Deborah have the cutest headers for their blogs, mine is going to look naked.

Last night, was the ladies' Christmas Gathering at church. I really enjoyed going and spending time with Mom and Deborah. I was also very glad to share this fun time with Rita. We spend so much time together she is just like family. The giveaways were pretty cool. My favorite was the galvanized drink tub. I have always wanted one of those!!! I really liked the photography ideas!! I mostly just had fun with my mom, Beth and Rita!! Ok, enough piddling, I must get back to my big book!! I will be very glad when I have everything done for this semester so I can start some of my fun holiday baking.
